The Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg has been researching the effects of flexible working on leadership and leadership success. 

It has found that a sense of purpose is essential at work – yet is still lacking for many employees. People who lack purposeful work take on average 19 days of sick leave per year. Giving employee more meaningful tasks can reduce sickness by over half.
